When it feels good to say no …

Anyone who knows me knows I can talk for England. I love conversation and do actually listen as well as talk. I’ve worked in eight countries and made many contacts. But ‘me time’ is really important. Sometimes I go fly fishing and don’t speak to a person all day (intentionally), and street photography can be a great help depending on my mood. Sometimes I put my headphones on and zone out into my own little world, other times I’ll engage in conversation.

    1. I can relate to this. It’s brilliant that you can recognise and nurture both the extrovert and introvert within. I sometimes struggle to get the balance right. I tend to retreat into my quiet world too much sometimes. Being aware of what makes you tick and what works when really does help.

I think giving up alcohol (5 years ago) has helped me recognise a lot of things that before were just a blur. And I don’t need alcohol to give me the mythical ‘Dutch courage’ Now I can walk on stage, sober and alone and confidently do a show in front of an audience and have fun with it. I also recognise the moments when I want to move away from a full pub, cafe whatever and be on my own. 🤗

        1. I love that. I believe that lots of people use alcohol to mask feelings of all kinds … stress, unhappiness, loneliness etc … but I realised that whilst it can do that temporarily, it masks all feelings, not just the ones we want to escape. Alcohol dulls everything and I would rather connect with my feelings, awakened to everything life has to offer.
