    Absolutely right about a kind word can light up your whole day. I was at the Pain Clinic in hospital last week, and the clinician not only listened really carefully, and asked vg follow-up q’s, but she also said several times during our 90min meeting stuff like: ‘you’ve done really well to get through all that you’ve been through’. They weren’t glib comments – they were clearly heart-felt. Not a dismissive ‘how did that make you feel’ but a genuine acknowledgement that I’d been through a lot of very difficult stuff from a very young age, and she was astonished I was still going :-) We had a good laugh about it all too – always a v v important part of being listened to.

    1. Oh absolutely! Listening is such as skill. We all want to be heard and yet it’s so unusual to feel truly heard that it’s a treat when it happens x
