Hello and welcome to my blog. I’m Fi Wynne and I love to write. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t write. Poetry is my favoured genre although I also journal and confess to having completed several drafts of a novel (festering in a drawer for more years than I care to remember).
There’s something about poetry that beckons, enticing you into its hallowed space. Like walking into a cathedral or perhaps a wild flower meadow. Hard to resist, at least for me. Most of us will have studied poems in school and perhaps never thought much about them since. But, in reality, they are everywhere! We see poems on the London Underground, for example. In England we have a Poet Laureate, with equivalents (official or otherwise) in other parts of the UK. Most of us will turn to poems in times of crisis or celebration. They feature regularly at weddings, christenings and funerals for a reason … they provide words when we have none.
I’ve been writing poems all my adult life. I’ve been inspired by many different poets of varying styles. What draws me is the exploration of how we connect with each other and the world around us. It’s that same yearning to connect that makes me open my notebook and start scribbling down thoughts and observations. When it works (it often doesn’t), I’ve shared a poem with close friends and family, hoping it will resonate.
Now I find I want more. I want to share my poems with the wider world. Yes, I know that all creativity is subjective. What one person loves may leave another cold. What feels accessible to me, may feel alien to you. But, equally, it may make sense and bring you joy, comfort or validation. How will I know if I never take that next step and publish?
So here it is. My poetry blog. I hope you will enjoy reading. Please do leave comments on the relevant posts and bear in mind that your comments will be visible to all. If you want to get in touch with me you can do so at: fiona@fiwynne.com.
